What happens once you've registered with us
...fantastic service and regular communication...
The first thing that you can be assured of is a fantastic service and regular communication at all times. We know that the burning questions generally arise outside of normal office hours so we try to be available when you need us, we are open evenings and weekends.
We will ask you to fill out our registration forms so that we have as much information on your requirements as possible We will then hand pick only nannies that should provide a genuine match. We do not believe in sending you nannies that are not suitable. We will provide you with a copy of the selected candidates' CVs to read which will give you details of their experience, qualifications and hopefully a brief insight into their personality. Again, we will be on hand at all times to answer any questions you may have relating to the candidates.
Once you have selected candidates for interview we will arrange these at a time convenient to you and assist you in preparing for them should you require. Interviews are normally conducted in your home so that the nanny can meet the children and get to know you and your family in your home surroundings.
After the interview we will call you to discuss how it went, passing any feedback to the nanny as appropriate. Hopefully, you will be pleased with how it went and we will then arrange a second interview for you and suggest ideas for how to get the most from this second meeting.
Once you have decided on your perfect nanny we will assist you in preparing the job offer, negotiating with the nanny and then helping with the contract of employment and all the administrative details that need taking care of.
We truly believe that our after care service is second to none and you will find that our commitment to you does not end once your new nanny starts. We are happy to be on hand to discuss any aspect of your childcare needs at any point in the future and are always glad to be of help.

Babysitting Service
Sign up to our babysitting service and relax knowing that all of our babysitters are childcare professionals; they will have a childcare qualification or at least two years childcare experience. They will also have been interviewed, ID and reference checked and will have had a DBS Check in the last two years
So how does it work?
-
Once you have told us your babysitting requirements we will introduce you to two babysitters from our database who live locally to you.
-
We feel that you should be able to choose your babysitters as you would your nanny so you are sent their cv’s to look through and interviews are arranged for you to meet with them before they sit for you.
-
Once you are happy that you have chosen your two babysitters we provide you with their contact details and you are free to book them as and when you wish
-
If you try to book your babysitter and neither is available we will endeavour to find you a replacement person.
How much will it cost?
-
Our babysitting service is £75 to join for which you will receive introduction to 2 of our recommended babysitters to use as you wish throughout the year. All babysitters charge £10 per hour or part of hour worked and this element is payable on the day directly to them.
Not signed up to our Babysitting Service?
-
If you are looking for a babysitter at short notice or just for an odd night out we will do our best to help you. The agency fee for this is a one off £25. Babysitter rates are the same as above and are payable to the sitter on the day.
Event Childcare
Are you organising your wedding? Do you have an important party to plan?
Why don't you leave the childcare to us so that you can enjoy the day along with your guests?
No matter what sort of childcare it is that you are looking for, we can help you, whether it be one nanny to come and babysit for your children in the hotel room or a small group of nannies to supervise whilst the entertainment is taking place, for the whole day or just for the evening.
We also have a sister company who specialise in providing Mobile Creche facilities who will take care of the entire day and will bring entertainers, toys and games to ensure you can relax and enjoy your day.
All of our child carers are qualified and experienced professionals, they will have been interviewed and vetted by ourselves and will have had a DBS check in the last two years.
If you would like to discuss your specific requirements in more detail please do give us a call.
Our guide to the Ofsted childcare register for families
There is a financial benefit by way of income tax and NI exemption to paying your nanny using Childcare Vouchers. In order to be eligible to receive the vouchers your nanny must be registered with Ofsted. In basic terms each parent is able to 'exchange' up to £55 per week of their gross salary for childcare vouchers with which to pay for child care. It is important to check if your employer is registered with one of the voucher providers in order to start receiving them. The nanny will redeem the vouchers via the provider who will pay the value directly into her bank account.
** Autumn 2015 - Childcare Vouchers will be replaced by Tax free Childcare for new registrations, more information can be found on www.gov.uk **
Q: What criteria does my nanny need to meet?
The nanny must:
-
Have a recognised childcare qualification or show that she has knowledge and experience of the common core skills in childcare.
-
Have a recognised & valid paediatric first aid certificate - see links page for recommended first aid courses
-
Have an enhanced CRB disclosure; one will be done as part of the process if the nanny has not already had one done by Ofsted in the last three years.
-
Take out public liability insurance - we recommend Morton Michel, please see links page
Q: Who pays for the registration?
It is advisable that all nannies become Ofsted registered as it demonstrates their professionalism. However, as the process is quite expensive, and it is the family who will be benefitting financially, we feel it is only fair that they fund the process.
Q: How much does it cost to become registered?
The registration itself is £103 plus the cost of a new DBS Check if required which is approx £70. All documentation needs to be verified by The Post Office for which there is a charge of £8. If the nanny requires a new First Aid certificate the cost of an appropriate course is around £120 and Public Liability Insurance is generally between £50 and £70 per year.
Q: How do we start the registration process?
The easiest way to do this is online at www.ofsted.gov.uk. You can also call Ofsted on 0300 123 1231. Please note that nannies must register as a 'Home Child carer' when filling out the form or applying by telephone. Ofsted will then advise on what happens next, how to get their documentation verified at the Post Office and how to pay the fee.
Q: How long does the process take?
This is a very lengthy process, it can take up to 12 weeks to complete. Please allow plenty of time to do the application. Once registered it is valid for one year
DBS Checks
Here at The Nanny Company we take our nanny screening process very seriously. One of the elements we insist on is that all of our nannies have had a DBS Enhanced Disclosure in the last three years.
The DBS is an Executive Agency of the Home Office set up to help organisations make safer recruitment decisions.
People such as nannies who want to work with children are required to apply for an Enhanced DBS disclosure. The DBS will check information...
-
Held on the Police National Computer (PNC) including convictions, cautions, reprimands and warnings in England and Wales, both spent and unspent.
-
Held by local police forces and other agencies relating to non conviction information.
-
Held on the lists maintained by the Independent Safeguarding Authority (ISA)
-
On lists held at the Department of Health and Department of Education and skills
-
On List 99- the register of men and women who are barred from working with children.
-
On the POCA list.(The Protection of Children Act)
-
On the POVA list.(The Protection of Vulnerable Adults)
-
Held by other sources, such as the British Transport Police, Royal Military Police and The Ministry of Defence Police
If your nanny needs a new DBS please contact us and this can be arranged for you. For further information on DBS and the disclosure service please click here
During the recruitment process it is essential to think about how you will be paying your nanny's wages. As an employer you are responsible for calculating and paying her tax and national insurance contributions.
This can be quite daunting if it is something that you have not done before. Therefore, we recommend the services of a local nanny payroll company, Way2paye. Led by Karen Kemp, they will administer all HM Revenue and customs requirements and provide you with their professional, experienced and friendly service for a small annual fee.
For more details call 01604 743346 or visit www.way2paye.co.uk.
